Experiment with 5 Art Mediums
1. Encaustic Wax
Encaustic wax painting uses layers of melted beeswax mixed with colored pigments to create textured, vibrant artwork. The wax is heated and applied to a surface (often wood) in layers, which are then fused together with heat, usually from a heat gun or torch.
2. Cyanotype
Cyanotype is an old photographic process that uses sunlight to create beautiful, deep blue images. You coat paper or fabric with a light-sensitive solution, arrange objects like leaves, flowers, or stencils on it, and then expose it to the sun. The result is a striking, high-contrast print in shades of cyan blue, making it a fascinating way to capture shapes and patterns from nature.
3. Acrylic Paint
Acrylic is a versatile and vibrant painting medium known for its quick-drying, water-based qualities that allow for rich layering and colour blending. With guidance, you’ll experiment with brushwork and colours to capture the beauty of botanicals in your own unique style.
4. Clay
Pottery making is the art of shaping clay into beautiful, functional objects through handcrafting techniques. In this session, you’ll get hands-on experience working with clay to create your own unique vessel or plate.
5. Ink & Gelli Plate Printing
Ink mark making is the process of creating patterns, textures, and shapes using different tools and materials. When combined with a gel plate—a soft, flexible surface—you roll or spread ink onto the plate, place objects like leaves, stencils, or textured materials on top, then press paper onto it. This transfers the ink design onto the paper, creating beautiful, layered prints.
